Sat Nav Display-Missing Pixels?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Sat Nav Display-Missing Pixels?

Post by nickm »

Just bought a 2003 glx and the display screen has pixels missing, i'd like to be able to use it for the mpg figures etc-i don't really care about the sat-nav function as i use a tomtom so can i just get a standard mfd and plug that in?

I think they are essentially the same screen, but the standard non sat nav one has 2 buttons each side of the screen, the sat nav one has no buttons just an infared sensor for the remote, and i suppose the mfd would have some elecrical gubbins to work the remote so you would be looking for a satnav display, id doubt the normal one would work for you, the sat nav display might be a bit trickier to find on ebay, i have had a look but they do come up, alternativley on ebay look for peugeot 406 breaking, find a car with the sat nav and ask the seller to take out the display for you. Or go to a scrapyard, it could take a bit of time to get the part but it will appear somewhere.

The satnav screen is a different unit altogether, so I'd advise getting another one otherwise you'll lose the resolution and satnav, and need to get your BSI reconfigured at a dealer

its tricky to try and repair it, someone asked on some other sat nav thing there recently about it, but i have tried both trying to resolder connections, and heating up the ribbon with a special attachment and neither worked.
I really dont know how they are fixed, but im suprised by how google hasnt got much solutions, it mustnt be something many people try and repair, but phones, tvs cameras everything with lcd displays have them ribbons, someone must know exactly how they are put in place.
