ask-rain sensor problem

Hi all, I read over the net and found something that similarly same with my problem

I have a peugeot 406 2.0 1998, and since I bought it the rain sensor never worked. When I turn the lever into the "auto" position, all I get is the standard temporized wipe.
I noticed that when I turn the key in the ignition, even in the first position, the orange light inside the sensor turns on and stays on all the time.
Do someone know if this is a simptom of a faulty sensor? I saw some similar sensors on e-bay, but I would not like to buy one if the problem could be solved in another way. I think that maybe someone made some wrong connection and this could affect the proper working of the sensor. I know that the car has an alarm system installed outside peugeot, and this could be the root of some problems if the installer was not careful.

What are your thoughts? Can anyone point me to some things I should test / try?

Do you know if your car definetely has auto wipers?
What model is it?
Does it say 'AUTO' on the stalk?
Do you get the 'AUTOMATIC WIPING ACTIVE' message on the MFD?

My car is D9 type 2003, in my country, all of the 406 D9 (MK 2 - I dont know for sure) already had an automatic wiper. There is 'AUTO' on the stalk and there are two blinkig lights at the front glass. Are there anything that I miss? When I move the stalk to the auto, the wiper just move like a normal intermittent wiper, not automatic by the rain intensity. Whee's the problem.

The Auto wipers are disabled each time you turn off the ignition and you have to manually reset them using the stalk. Each time you 'set' them you get one confirmatory wipe and then they should work according to how much water is on the glass sensor.

Try getting a hose pipe and splashing the sensor to see if the wipers react.

As Welly said test them with some water on the screen, however do not do what I did and wipe crud off your screen with the engine running and then snap your brand new solid wiper blades off the arm as they shoot up because you,ve covered the sensor !!!!!!

So you don't know if it ever worked? Do you know if it had a new windscreen fitted? I think the ecu for this is part of the BSI, so there's not much you can do if there is a problem with this (apart from panic and sell it quickly...) Working as a normal intermittent is the system's back-up program, so it is seeing some kind of fault (I guess if it wasn't they wouldn't work at all).

There's a how to here viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11784 for cleaning the sensor, you could check the connections here and give the lenses a clean. If that doesn't fix it there's no other way of testing it other than substituting another unit. Ouch.

Hello All, thanks for the quick responses. Ya, I forgot to tell that the glass has been changed recently, I think that's the problem. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11784 I have to do the sensor cleaning. Thank you all. I will check the sensor and give some response here.

I'm pretty sure it can be enabled / disabled via PP2000 FWIW.

But you can select different sensitivity settings, (less sensitive, reference, or more sensitive: default = reference).
