alarm/ immobiliser

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

alarm/ immobiliser

Post by kevtherev »

been comparing insurance quotes online and one question is about the security system on the car.
i have been answering that it is standard factory fitted alarm /immobiliser, but the button on my keyfob is missing so my question is, when i lock the door with my key is the alarm/ immobiliser activated and does mine even have an alarm??

"the" button on your key? So no deadlocking... If you have little 'nipples' that look like tiny speakers at the top of the columns which you knock off when you swing your sun visor around to the side, then you have an alarm. I don't know if the 406 had an alarm setup that works on the locks only...

As for immobiliser you could try opening up your key and looking for a little black box stuck to the key plastic. If you've got the box you've got an immobiliser. Maybe... The only real way to check I guess would be to get a plain key (no electronics) cut in your local high street and with your real key in the house, see if you can enter and start the car with it
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

well you might find this confusing then i have 3 keys lol
1 key to undo the drivers door which operates central locking. this was because the lock was replaced due to spinny lock syndrome when i bought the car (the garage did this)
a second key that fits the boot and passenger door but the passenger door is also suffering from spinny lock syndrome and
a third key which has electrics inside but the (single) button is missing which is for the ignition
i would like to get it sorted but not exactly sure what course of action to take lol
haven't got the "nipples" so no alarm then, no deadlock either but i do have a little flashing red light near the stereo unit which i thought may have summat to do with an immobiliser
only ask coz insurance companies will use any excuse to wriggle out of paying up, so they could say i gave wrong info
