This issue nearly got sorted in another thread about fuel economy i think but its not quite finished.
So the cruise control works on alternate journeys, all the pedals have been checked. But if i pull over and switch the car off for 2 minuites i hear 1 click after the first, then the second click at minuite 2 the cruise control works again. The clicks are like relays down by the fuse box, but what should i go and look at now to sort out this issue. Its a com2000 car.

Re: Cruise Control
I think one of the clicks is the electrics going off - before this the electric windows still work, unless you open a door. It might be related but I can't think how

Re: Cruise Control
yip the minuite click is the electric windows and cruise control switching off their courtesy function so if by then you havent closed them they wont close. But then the second click must turn off other stuff, like that whining noise from round by the egr valve. But what controls the cruise control, is there some bit holding the accelerator down that i could look at?

Re: Cruise Control
The whining noise is the vacuum dissipating, if you press the brake pedal a few times it should stop.
Er, cruise control? Pass, I can't even remember if these have a vacuum pump or not

Re: Cruise Control
would an automotive electrician be able to fix it, seems more elctrical than anything else, does it go through the BSI, had this problem well before i did that thing to the bsi back in summer, and once i took the footwell lights out all systems returned to normal.

Re: Cruise Control
There's no cc actuator - the ecu just holds constant revs, effectively.
I'd say your best bet was some competent diagnosis, or if you want to save money, wait till it packs in altogether as this should make tracing it easier

2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Re: Cruise Control
Not on the HDIs, no, as they're drive-by-wire. There probably won't be any audible sign of the cruise control on diesels (unlike the ES9J4 for instance, which has a relay in the cruise control module to turn on the vacuum pump)... Can you get to someone with a PP2000? It will likely be able to tell you, probably indirectly, where the problem is406executiveHDI wrote:But what controls the cruise control, is there some bit holding the accelerator down that i could look at?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
