Peeps
I have picked up a 406 est today and the tailgate open light is perminantley displayed on the dashboard.
I assume that its going to be something like a bad earth or broken wire
anyone else had this problem and where is best to start looking?
thanks in advance

One other thing i have noticed
the date and time do not store every time you turn ignition off it reverts to the default setting, tho the radio keeps its stored channels

The switch for the tailgate appears to be at the bottom of the lock plate on the D9 (unlike the D8 which is a tilt switch inside the tailgate), perhaps this is stuck - does the load area light go on & off normally or is the bulb missing?
The clock issue is probably unrelated, I'm thinking Mack The Knife's been at the stereo wiring. Even if the standard Clarion's in there that's not to say someone'0s fitted an after-market radio at some point, then bodged the Clarion back in any old how to sell it. You need to pull this out to check (you will need 2 knitting needles for the Clarion...). Alternatively, I'm not sure if the clock has two fuses - one for when the ignition's on and one for when it's off (seems unlikely but...)

Well i went down to GSF and got a bulb for the boot light as it was not working. I have changed that and still no joy with the light. Before i start to explore the wires i noticed when you remove the light there is a space at the side of the bulb which you could fit a fuse in it. I did mention this to the sales guy at GSF but it must of been the morning after the night before because i just got a shrug of the shoulders!!
All he said was it was big enough for a small bulb to fit in!!

Re: 406 Tailgate open warning light always on
My bootlight wouldnt come on, and at the same time the mfd just dissappeared completely, so i was confused, looked at the fuses all seemed fine, then went to the boot and pulled the surround of where the boot latches into, with it off you can see there is a wee push switch that operates when the latch pushes down on the black platic it is pushed down which because of the angle on the side of this pushes in the switch which i think turns the warning off, the light must be controlled by a seperate switch in the boot because it goes out before the boot is fully closed. But everything was ok so i put on a pair of glasses and used a torch to look at the fusebox and seen there was indeed a blown fuse brought back the electric seat memory, bootlight and the mfd. Only le french could think of wiring like that. But your tailgate warning is controled by the wee black push switch down there where the boot latches in, could have fell out in which case use a cable tie to put it back into place, if the switch is broke try and fix it (fiddly) or get another one

Re: 406 Tailgate open warning light always on
i shall have a look when i get a chance next.
The boot light does not seem to work, but i have noticed last night that the interior lights do not come on when you remote unlock the car or if you open a door. They work if you put them permintly but not to get in and out.
The door lights work as they should, also the warning for lights on and key in ignition when you open door all work
love french electrics!!

could be fuses, but the way the light comes on when the unlock button is pressed is controlled through the bsi but check the fuses the bsi shouldnt go just like that, lights also might need to be in the correct position
