fog lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Rear,or the completely pointless, utterly useless, idiotic things at the front?

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)

When you say the "fuses seem all right" do you mean you found the appropriate fuse and tested it with a meter or did you give them all a visual inspection and couldn't see any that were obviously blown?

Ah, that's generally the problem, fuse layout seems to vary car to car, Haynes is always wrong and the handbook is probably wrong. And you have a... 2002 HDi 110, Service Box says fuse 19 in the passenger fuse panel. It says the same for mine, I'll just go out and check...

Well, I can say that it's definitely not fuse 19  In fact I tried pulling all the 10 amp fuses one at a time and none of them made the fog lights go off, apart from fuse 7, which, when I pulled it the lights didn't go off but when I stuck it back in again the fog lights went out, there was a "bong" from the dash somewhere (com2000? Nothing on the MFD) and the windscreen wipers started going on intermittent (it's not raining and the switch is definitely off    ) It was at this point I decided I didn't want to break something and stopped

Err, just a thought guys, a 406 should only have one rear fog, (the other's a dummy unless somebody 'fixed' it).

Could you just have a bulb gone?

(It's the drivers side one that works).

My D8 only had 1 (2 after I'd finished with it  ), my D9 came with two.

Well, my fuse pulling extravaganza was a resounding success. Not. Now I look again my rear fogs are fuse B, not fuse 19 which are the fronts. Oh, and the lights have gone out in the mfd  According to the handbook fuse 7 is the alarm, which my car doesn't have :frown: Obviously pulling fuses on a car that's running is a big no no. I think the bong is the noise you get when you change something, so pulling the fuse has reconfigured the car to turn out the lights in the mfd. Stupid bluddy car

None of which helps the OP. I reckon, if it's not fuse 19, you'll have to get a test lamp and fit a small wire to one probe, the other to earth, get the car running with the lights on, go across the fuse panel and make a note of which fuses are live, then turn the fogs on and do it again to see what's changed. I know this is a pain in the bum but it's the only way to identify the fuse, which you need to do to see if it's blown in a way that's not immediately obvious.

Fixed, I'm a pillock  After disconnecting the battery for an hour, then doing a BSI reset, I noticed the clock was resetting every time I turned the ignition off - aha! I though, that's a fuse! Nothing obviously blown, so I pulled out & tested every one (that I could get to anyway) but they were all fine. Then I thought about the few blank positions that were left, the sat nav system (which I don't have) was empty but the alarm siren one right next to it (which I also don't have) had a fuse in it. Sat nav? It's in the right area, so I switched it and we're all back to normal. Obviously I put it back in the wrong place last night.

Well anyway, my knowledge of the fuse panel has gone from nothing to just a tiny bit. The "bong" was me putting the fuse back for the com2000, with it out the wipers go on intermittent even with the switch turned off  Good grief, it's just a fecking fuse panel in just a fecking car :frown:

How are you getting on Vinnie?

At least you know which fuse it is :? Pull the bulbs out & check for power there, then you'll have eliminated everything else but the car's wiring & connectors (and lord knows where we go from there :( )
