Overhead Courtesy Light Question
Would it be possible to use the power coming from the courtesy light in the headling at the front to turn on and off a relay, and would i still get the nice dimming effect.
Is this free from bsi worries?

Oh, er, sorry, I can answer this - no, you can't run a relay off a dimmer circuit. I guess it'll energise when the current is high enough but there's no way it'll dim the same as the courtesy lights. This is also run straight off the BSI so I wouldn't touch it.

Re: Overhead Courtesy Light Question
so the dimmer bit is from the bsi, but what about the power for the light when you set it to turn on with the doors, is that bsi controlled also, does the lights dim off when a door is closed? I tried buying the rs thing but they dont accept paypal.

But it dims when you shut the doors.

Re: Overhead Courtesy Light Question
Hi
Dunno if this helps cos im crap with electrics but i about 2 yrs ago fitted 2 more interior lights (same as headling ones) as footwell lights in front
-both are wired,ie tapped into, the front headling light and work exactly the same as the roof one dimming out is the same, and no fires yet!
btw its a 1999 d9 hdi not multiplexed at least not fully multiplexed but does have a bsi (Bull sh*t Inside)
