headlight washer retro fit

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

headlight washer retro fit

Post by wasp »

Hi GUys
I have just replaced my mashed front bumper with a secondhand one from fleabay, it is in good nick and same colour.
It came of a v6 exec and has headlight washers- im sure these are a waste of time but as there i wanna try and make them work!
I have the v6's washer bottle with the extra pump all fitted with bumper.i found the extra washer bottle pumps' electric feed wire on my loom and plugged it in.
the wire has no feed when i wash the screen (engine running, lights on, full washer bottle) and after searching here and the net im led to believe there is a fuse and relay? needed in the engine compartment?
any ideas? where these go and what they are?
maybe one of you posh members with an exec of v6 could send me a pic of there fuse board under the bonnet? and i may be able to see what i dont have :)
thanks
Dave
btw . my car is hdi 1999

Correct. In fact worse than that, you'll wind up turning your headlights off to clean the screen, (like we all do but don't admit to).

You really need someone with a car the same age, to have any chance of working out which relay / fuse isn't there.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Sounds like it'd be easier to fit a separate switch (non-latching) and relay. Or at least the possibility to turn the feckers off.

I have a feeling the headlight washer doo-dahs are expensive as hell new and rocking horse poo second hand... :?

I'll second that, especially in winter, when they drain the washer fluid after a couple of squirts.
