water ??? 406

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

water ??? 406

Post by jln »

hi i have a lot of misinformation, mostly low battery, but the others are also sometimes. 2 times, all 4 headlight bulbs blown, I think it's moisture as it is worst in the rain, the plug under the carpet is quite dry, hoping for help. Jørgen (Denmark)

Hi Jørgen, welcome :cheesy:

I suppose the biggest concern is that these two issues are related - the alternator is producing too much voltage and this has blown the headlight bulbs. If this only occurs sometimes you could drive with a multimeter in your car to check this but I worry that this voltage could blow more expensive parts of your car.

I know that my car does not have a cover beneath the engine and water from the road is thrown up into the area of the alternator (and power steering pump etc.), perhaps your alternator voltage regulator is not waterproof.

You say that you sometimes have other misinformation, what are these?

I'm not sure if that will be loose connections or something more serious, what is the year of production for your car?

So *probably* multiplex. 406s have a lot of issues with bad connections with the circuit board but, with the other problems, I'd be very concerned about the voltage situation, low voltages will give all sorts of errors but high voltages I don't know about. Do these errors(temperature, oil etc.) appear on the display above the radio?

The voltage issue could be caused by the alternator, but them symptoms sound very similar to the problems i had when the bsi went skewe whiffe in my car, have you added any things onto the electrical system that could be drawing too much from the bsi

hello and thank you for your help, it was the alternator, and an error by wires to the Power steering pump. Jørgen
