Rear Fog Lamps

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Rear Fog Lamps

Post by r1150gsclark »

Just a quick question (sorry if it's a stupid one!!), has my 99 D9 406 GLX saloon just got the one rear foglamp? The driver side one is working, and I have noticed soo many other French cars seem to have 2 rear lamps, and I haven't really noticed other 406's though. Would appreciate any replies.

I think it's a cost-saving exercise by Peugeot and (someone correct me if I'm wrong) I think you only need one Fog Lamp for UK roads?

Anyhow, all is not lost as I think the provision is there for a second bulb and DaiRees on here successfully added a second lamp so may be able to help you out. There's a bit of drilling, filling and swearing involved but it is possible.

On my D9 estates all that was required was to dremel a hole in the reflector for the bulb, the wiring and bulbholder were already there.

Thanks for the replies, Guys,
I have looked at the rear light and there is a space for a bulb in the holder and the lens, I put a bulb in but no joy, if it is equipped for 2 lamps perhaps the light board is faulty, but if it only equipped for one, I'll be happy with that

I personally believe one rear fog is much better as it reduces the chance of someone not seeing your stop lights. IIRC a trend for one fog started in the early 90's

it's just one on the driver side on mine too, being an export to Sri Lanka. Therefore I don't think it has anything to do with UK law/regulation per say. I tried fixing another one to the passenger side but no luck! it doesn't lit up.

My D8 estate had one, I opened it up with a hole saw, fitted the bulb & it worked. The D9 has both

The passenger side was already wired and when I tried a bulb it worked, but the back of the lens didn't have a hole big enough to accept the bulb, so a couple of minutes with the dremmel was all it took :D

As above, I added a bulb in my passenger bulb holder, but also had to run a wire spur from the drivers side to the passenger to get two foglights. I traced the metal track of the bulb connector back to the multiplug and ended up just pushing the wire into the multiplug connector to get he positive feed. The negative feed is universal for the whole cluster so doesn't need to be added.
