My 2.0 HDi 110 appears to have a fault with the heating. All works well, aside from directing the airflow. I cant get much air to the floor (only light airflow) when operating the directional controls nothing seems to happen floor-wise. there is a constant airflow to the dash vents and air can be directed to or away from the windscreen.
Any ideas?
On a side note, I presume the air to floor comes out of the centre console at the handbrake area?

Re: Heater direction fault
hello, er has the handbrake ever been replaced because if so the centre console could have been taken out and the air pipes not put in right check that, then have a look to make sure the air is getting down there, since you say its directing air to the other places i dont think the air direction selector is broke, i thought it was on mine but just learnt that when you change direction on a climate control it doesnt have the instant response that a manual unit does because your waiting on a motor to turn it round. So anyhow just check all the pipes are connected.

Hi
Have you had any luck sorting this as I have the same problem?
Any feedback you can give me would be appreciated as I intend to strip our system out at the weekend and try and fix it.
My poor other half is fed up of having cold feet before he even starts his day at work.
Thanks
Sammy

Re: Heater direction fault
The airflow to the floor area happens mostly to the feet area near the pedals and under the glove box on the other side. There are secondary air outlets on the transmission tunnel and under the front seats.
In winter I used to run my controls in the 'Up and Down' positions....kinda...
and
if you get me? but it does help greatly to close down the central face vents using the thumb wheel shut off. Leave a bit of air directing down the side windows though for good visability.
Check that the carpeting under the glove box and above the pedals is not obstructing air flow.
To be honest, left in 'Auto' fan speed the 406 does not break any records in terms of outright airflow but the temperature of the air is very hot (over 50 deg C) and it usually manages fine.
Set the fan speed to Max the work all of the air flow directions using the control panel and listen/feel for the changes in air flow as the dampers and controllers all work to direct the air to where you need......you may find there's a problem with the 'Down Arrow' selection but the system is usually pretty reliable.
Finally, check the Pollen filter as it may be blocked and restricting air flow (in fact I would check this before any of the above).

Re: Heater direction fault
Hi
Sorted ours out last weekend, my other half had lovely warm feet this week, the pollen filter was blocked and once cleaned improved the blow into the car, also middle facia vents weren't connected properly a small screw behind the middle passenger side vent sorted that one.
Then this morning we had snow, my other half got up to go to work, started her up and no blower!!!
Been out there till 10pm tonight and have narrowed it down to the ignition switch we think, there is no power to fuse F40, but we have checked the blower does work off a battery.
Anyone had this problem.
Thanks Samantha

It's been on here a few times, it could just the the connector, I think someone said they moved the cables about and it started working, so they cable tied the cables there.

Re: Heater direction fault
Thanks Steve, I have been having a look through several posts looks like the ignition may well be the problem.
My other half wants to go back out there now and strip the ignition down!!!
Joy!!!
Snow and late nights in the garage without any heating in or outside of the car!!!
Will let you know how we get on, if i don't lose my fingers to frostbite !!.

Re: Heater direction fault
Sorry for delay in posting what the problem was, but life got in the way and I forgot.
We got another ignition barrel switch from the scrappy but that didn't work either it had the same problem. Luckily managed to got dosh back for it. My other half then stripped down our original ignition switch, cleaned the connections in the innards and managed to fix it, bit fiddly, but worth a try, before parting with hard earned for a new bit.
The big red wire passing the 40 amps to the fuse box was the culprit at the switch end.
