engine management light comes on

hi guys, just wondered if anyone could help......ive got a 406hdi 90bhp 2000 model
the thing is the car runs great except for when i go over 2200rpm in 4th gear the engine management light comes on & it cuts out, it doesnt do it in 1st 2nd or 3rd i can red line it there (didnt try 5th ).... i pull over switch the car off then on again & its back to normal again ( well with the same prob of coarse) but with the orange engine management light staying on as well.
any tips or advice for this would be great thanks a lot, keith
