Climate control 'default' settings?

Dead handy in winter this, if I leave the car for more than a few hours on restarting the climate control has set itself to auto with AC on but at the last set temperature, no big deal resetting to what I want but curious to know what's going on and if there is any way stopping it.

if the windscreen demist is on it will automatically switch on the air con. Thats just part of the software in the climate control, and not just in the peugeot every car ive been in with climate control (a thing all cars should have) does it that way.

thatll be because as aircon chills the air it inherantly removes moisture (most if not all A/C units will have a vent to allow large amounts of water leave the system, in the summer this is why your car has a wee when the air con is on!) if you blow dry air at any temperature at a moisture source it will remove water from that source, hence de-misting your windscreen (warm dry air is ideal but cold dry air is good enough in a small climate like your car)

but as they say its best to run the Air-con now and then thru the winter too stop it from getting fecked up,
Mines allready been fubard up and Yanked out so one less thing for me to worry about -lol,

i couldnt do without the aircon now ive had it in my car, i had to drive my old clio one day and the absence of that beautiful ac button on a hot day was a big big miss.

Yep I realise about the demist thing and I run the air con about once a month ( last car was a BMW, you do all you can to avoid their type of bills ) This happens after just running the fan to the footwell on medium speed temp set at 22C, nothing else, and leaving the car overnight.

Mine does it too from time to time, without using demist.

I've never been able to discern a pattern in it's behaviour, think you just have to shrug your shoulders and say, 'C'est la vie'.

I leave my ac on all year as it stops the car misting up and keeps the electrics nice and dry. This costs me about 2 mpg which is a price worth paying.

We concluded, I think, that the climate control decides to switch on the a/c according to the outside temperature.

It kinda 'assumes' you'll need to run the a/c for demisting in the winter and comfort cooling in the summer.

My morning ritual was to switch OFF the a/c every time before starting the car (but I didn't always have to do it ).

I find using the a/c at this time of year increases the chances of the windows steaming up after you leave the car because you've got a water source (the wet evaporator) and a heat source close by (the matrix) which makes humid air condense-out on the cold windscreen later on.

I don't use the a/c when it's really cold outside and have no problems with steamy windows unless there's 4 in the car and it's been raining etc.. I run the a/c regularly but when the ambient is above 5 deg's so that the refrigerant oil can vaporise and circulate nicely.

in cars without climate control can the unit just be plugged in there.

The trouble you would have retro-fitting a/c in a car would make it cost prohibitive - it would be much easier to locate another car with it fitted as standard.

why dont all cars have it as standard, its one thing i always deem an essential extra especially if its offered in a car. Dual zone though is even better.
