last time i was fixing a friends heater , next to the blower is like a grey alluminium thing connetcted to the heating wires , we replaced that and everything worked ... sorry for bieng so unclear

Today the N-channel FET transistor arrived. Cost £3.50. I applied heat conductive grease and fixed it with the clip. I soldered it with a hot iron to be sure the solder flowed well and made good connection. I used an IRFP064N Transistor N-FET 55V 98A TO-218 if someone else wants to make this stunt. This transistor supports 98 amps and the original supported 75A, so I think it will be more that adequate as replacement.
When I got everything together and started the engine the blower started as it should. The speed regulation and everything performed as originally. Phew....
I have just another heater question which have puzzled me for years with this car. It seems that there is a magic barrier between the 21.5 and 22 degrees temperature setting. If the temperature is set to 21.5 or lower, no heated air is ever produced. However at 22 and above it seems that the regulation works and heated air is regulated as expected. Is it something magic with this particular temperature level..? Anyone else experiencing anything like this with 2004 406......?

Nice result (I may steal it for the knowledge base
), I'm not sure about the 21.5-22 degrees thing, I think mine sticks it out until the car reaches the set temperature (as detected by the samplers). I will investigate...

Last year the heater fan motor on my 2000 406 est decided it wasn't going to play ball if there was an R in the month. Sometimes speed control worked other times not so down to the scrappy and pulled one off another. Difference was the scrap one had a single regulating tranny while the original had 2 though all connections the same. Swapped over and all okay. Dissected the old motor and found brushes/commutator and bearings on their way out so binned it but not before removing the regulator and heatsink in case the other one goes west (or I find a use for it in one of my electronics projects!). Total cost £15 plus my time.
