Brake light problem....

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Brake light problem....

Post by Mike84 »

Hopefully some of you knowledgeable guys will be able to help me!

I have a problem with the passenger side brake light. Its not working. I have checked and changed the bulb, and also changed for one that definitely works (from the drivers side). I've checked the fuses, had a look at the bulb holder to check for corrosion, had a look at the wiring etc. Still nothing. In the passenger side is where the wiring for the cars towing bracket is, i've checked (visually) the connections for the tow bar wiring and they all look ok too.

Anyone have any other ideas on what i can check to get this working! It's MOT time tomorrow so dont really want a failure on a bulb not working (although I think there will be other stuff anyway!)

It probably is something to do with the trailer socket, those scotch locks that everyone uses cut into the insulation, if it then all gets wet the wires are free to corrode. Tell you what, if you can't get it working tee-in to the driver's side wiring, just to pass the mot, then figure it out later.

It could be that is gotten wet, the rear tail light was smashed in an accident (a snow plough skidded and crashed in to the car!) It was a few weeks before the insurance company got it sorted out.

I'll have a look again in a bit, its too cold out at the minute!

I'm still struggling with this, can anyone tell me, are all the brake lights on the same fuse? Just want to make sure that I've not missed anything.

Car failed the MOT, on this but a few other things as well. Need to get it sorted out ASAP!

Thanks

They seem to be on different fuses yes, according to the fuse diagram that probably doesn't apply to your car (2002->) and is wrong anyway

11&12 seem to be the ones...

Sorted the brake light problem. It was a fault with the bulb holder. A bit of bending the steel contacts and squashing some contacts back together with the pliers did the trick!

Thanks for the help again guys.
