Wiper Problem
Hi folks,
Maybe someone can point me in the right direction
I have a 2001 HDi that the fromt wipers have failed on. The washer pump is still working and the rear wiper / washer pump are still working.
I've checked fuses which are OK and have gotten a wiper motor out of a scrap yard but no joy as of yet.
What can I check next.
Are there any relays/connectors that I can check (where are they located)
I've been told to try replacing the wiper stalk but I'm having problems locating one in a scrap yard as it's the one that has the lights, wipers the lot on one unit that wraps around the steering column.
Can anyone suggest any simple tests or things to try before taking to a car electrics place
Thanks

Re: Wiper Problem
are you sure the motor from the scrap yard was a working one .... ?
but it does sound like it could be the com2000

Did you check the fuses with a meter? They're not always obvious. It's (hopefully) F17 in the engine fuse panel.
While you've got the cover off, does your fuse panel look like this:

Hi folks
Thanks for the replys.
I've checked the power going to the wiper motor and there's only the constant 12V supply going there. I'm getting nothing on the other 2 lines.
Was thinking either Com2000 or BSI so bit the bullet and took it to a main dealer today for diagnostic check.
They've said that I need a complete new under bonnet fuse-box costing Euro200 all in.
I'm a bit sceptical about this. I brought the car home and quickly (before it got dark) metered the fuses in the fuse-box and they are all fine.
Steve my fusebox looks very similar to the one in the pic that you've posted but unfortunately F17 is fine (what is F17 for?)
I'll try to get the fuse-box out on Saturday in daylight and have a look.
Is there anything that I'd need to watch out for when removing the fusebox?
Thanks for the replys.

Re: Wiper Problem
Damn
It's the feed to relay 7, which seems to control parking for the wipers and also feeds on to relay 8, which is low speed/high speed. I think
Basically Peugeot's Service Box say they're all the same 1999-2004 but I remain sceptical.
Have a diagram http://www.petrila.net/pug/Service/406/ ... 34s6s2.htm
There was a guy recently over on the coupé club with a wiper issue who ended up changing the fuse panel - it'd be worth a read but I think you'll need to sign up to read it - http://www.peugeot406coupe.com/phpBB3/v ... 8&start=75 (There's also a link for disconnecting&reconnecting the battery on there). I was hoping he'd take the old one to bits and then we'd know if the individual relays could be replaced but he doesn't seem to have got round to it.
As you've given the price in €urines I guess getting stuff off the coupé club's resident breaker will be a problem

Re: Wiper Problem

wiper relay, it was actually behind the fuse box and you had to pull out a red tab in order to pull the fuse box out.. and then tucked right in behind with the only access that resembles sticking your hand through a mail slot I finally got it out and opened up and low and behold, it too had not one but three dry solder joints! have just re-soldered them
from one of the other forums i'm on. It seams like dry solder joins are the plague of these cars.

Re: Wiper Problem
Is that from a D8?
After spending months tracking down a fault on my mate's old Passat that turned out to be not one but two relays with dry joints on them I can definitely say "these cars" applies to anything with 4 wheels on it.

Re: Wiper Problem
The problem was in a D8 i'm not sure about the fuse in the picture- i think the picture was just an example of what to look for...
Re: Wiper Problem
Sorry for not getting back sooner.
The relays in my car were in a seperate box at the front of the fuse box.
Took them out and checked them finding one with all the contacts corroded.
Went into town to get a replacement, fitted it and still no joy.
Eventually went down the road of getting a new fuse box as things were getting a bit dangerous with all the rain.
Problem solved.
Didn't get the old fuse box back to check it for bad soldering. If I'd more time or a backup car I would have chased it further
Thanks for everything folks

I sometimes wonder if Peugeot ever actually made two cars the sameGarry wrote:The relays in my car were in a separate box at the front of the fuse box.

Glad you got it sorted anyway
