NEED HELP RE INDICATOR STALK DODGY-WHICH TYPES ETC?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

NEED HELP RE INDICATOR STALK DODGY-WHICH TYPES ETC?

Post by martint »

Ive got a D9 i think. X reg (2001) 406 HDi saloon (rapier)
My indicator stalk has just went loopy.(The curse, I hear!!). Not cancelling etc.
Can anyone shine a light on 1. Is mine the dreaded com2000?
2. Can i add a new stalk or does it have to be the whole com2000 unit?

Does it look like the com2000 in the D9 Steering Wheel Removal and COM2000 Change How To in the Knowledge Base?

I had the same problem with my 406 hdi. Luckily because mine is an early one i only had to replace the indicator stalk its not a comm 2000. I phoned the dealer and got them to check if it was a comm 2000 and it wasn't. Then went to gsf to get the part it cost £37 instead of £60. From memory the comm 2000 was quite a lot of money not much change out of two hundred quid. Gsf or eurocarparts are cheaper might also be worth having a look on ebay. Now i've fitted the new indicator stalk its much better.

I did manage to find a quick bodge to keep my car going for a couple of weeks just get a couple of large elastic bands hook one end over the indictor stalk and over the top of the column shroud and then the other end over the washer stalk and this just gives enough pull on the stalk and stops it indicating left all the time.

just replaced mine last week and was pretty easy. 2 screws to undo on the bottom of the cowling around steering wheel. wiggle the top bit off, pull out the steering column by releasing the catch at the bottom (makes it easier to remove the old switch). 2 screws hold the switch in and then just remove the 2 connectors by pushing in the 2 clips (middle). then its a just a reverse of what you did. trickiest bit for me was undoing and redoing the screws that hold the cowling in place as my torx was only just long enough!!
