'Clicking' indicator

Hi all,

A new problem has cropped up on my 1996 406td d8 relating to what appears to be the indicator. I can hear it sometimes making frantic fast clicking noises randomly , but if I go to use it it's fine and clicks at a normal rate. Now I have read on here about com2000 or something similar, but this is the old style indicator stalk.

Is the problem likely to be the stalk itself or a relay breaking down somewhere else. Before I attack the steering wheel i'd like to be sure I am looking in the right place ;)

Austin,

Can't be anything too serious - your car doesn't have a Com2000 and you can remove/replace the stalk without disturbing the wheel. Rapid flashing of indicators is usually a sign one of the two 21W. is not working.
