immobiliser keypad 406 1997

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

immobiliser keypad 406 1997

Post by flyerdave »

I have a problem!

My car is at a garage for a full service and MOT and the keypad immobiliser is showing both green and red lights so the engine will not start.

It will not accept my 4digit number.

What can I do?

I have another 406 same year without a keypad. If I take the ecu out of that car will it work in the other car?

Look at the keypad connector. There are a whole lot of wires going to the keypad. The wires tend to tear over time. Open the connector and see if all wires are OK. Mine hadtwo torn wires that looked OK before opening the connector but made no contact on the inside.

Quite a few 406's have the key pad disabled (mine being one of them) the garage I bought it from did it due to a dodgy button. didn't see it done but it didn't take long so I doubt it's hard to do.
Pretty sure someone on here will now how if you choose this option

I wil add my plip has never worked which may be related to the keypad being unplugged, but I've never been that bothered as my previous car didn't even have central locking :cheesy:

You can disable the keypad but the engine had to be running before you can do it :(
Basically you unplug the keypad with the engine running.

Both lights lit means that the wrong code has been entered too many times, get them to disconnect the battery for 5 mins and try again.
It's possible one of the buttons is sticking and they buggered it up.

Be warned!

i made the mistake of playing around with the codes on the immobiliser and paid the price, £150 - immobiliser now gone.

It can also mean a dodgy connection or an electrical whoopsie...
