Intermittent horn problem 406 2004 2.0 hdi

Many thanks to Steve Earwig for his earlier response to this topic. Will have a go at cleaning the contacts but just to get through imminent MOT I'll maybe just ask the tester to push in the centre of the pad where for some unknown reason the horn does seem to work a bit better. Also forgot to mention that the airbag warning light has always been permanently on and I've always just ignored it. Just wondering whether Steve thinks this may in some way (eg via COMMS 2000 contacts/wiring) have some bearing on the horn problem.

I think you will fail your mot for the airbag light I've got no idea if it's something to do with your com2000, it could be a connector on one of the seats (very common problem on many cars, not just the 406), it could be the ecu (I had one go on my D8) or it could be the com. I doubt if it's anything to do with the horn anyway, they all seem to have the same issue with dirty/burnt contacts.

Thanks for that Steve. It passed MOT in May 2010 with the airbag problem although I
gather from postings elsewhere on this site that it will fall within the scope of the MOT
as from 2011.

its hit and miss with air bag lights now some will fail some will turn ablind eye its at there descretion,
ive put black tape over the light in the past and got away with it,
