2002 hdi 136 electrical problems

Post by gtxhdi »

help help help.
i have a 2002 136 hdi gtx estate .
i recently had problems with the immobiliser which was fixed with the installation of a new transponder receiver . before i got to this problem the dash (ignition ) lights went out . with the new unit fitted when turning the key to the first position i dont get any dash lights the windows dont work but the radio does . when the car is started the dash lights jump into life but are very dim. i do have a bad earth somewhere as i can hear it via the radio when its in standby and i go over a bump. i also have a problem with limp home mode . the car goes into limp home when i accelerate to arround 60 mph at 1500 rpm its a total killer but i dont do a lot of motorway mils so i just live with it it disapears when the car has been parked up for 24 hours and it will run without the management light comming on for weeks if im just running around the town .
the car has just done 170 k today but is still in cracking condition . the dealer would like to take it in be says i will be £100+ just to have a look . i cant afford that and to tell you the truth apart from the coade reader im as good as the tech at the local dealer i have previous with them after a proposed bill of 800 last time which with investigation i reduced to 104 . good to ask question . im at a dead end with this one ive checked fuses all ok im thinking realays or bsi now
any one had anything similar . any help or pointers would be most appreciated .

id start by removing the battery and the tray and check the earth's under there, follow the earth cabe from the terminal to the earthing point under the battery tray.

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

If you can hear it through the radio, what about detuning it, turning it up loud and bashing various parts of the car until you can hear it through the radio?

It couid be a bad earth in the engine bay,
to rule that out Get a jump lead connect one end to the Negative post on the battery and the other end to somewhere on the engine (Earthing point)

Nicely done :cheesy:

I think we can upload pics to the site again now but it looks a bit of a fiddle and I can't work out how to get the pictures in the text without going back and editing it  Either give that a go or do what everyone's been doing for years - set up a photobucket.com (or similar) account and upload your pictures to that. When done it'll give you url links for the pics (e.g. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd196/steve_earwig/2011/2011-05/BXs.jpg), use the buttons above to put [IMG] tags around it (e.g. [IMG]http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd196/steve_earwig/2011/2011-05/BXs.jpg[/IMG]) and it'll display the pics inside the text where you put them.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the limp home, it could be the vacuum solenoid for the turbo, or it could be, erm, something else
