tailgate lights

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

The lights on the tailgate? My D8 had the flappy bits, the D9 doesn't though. You'll just have to take the carpeting (card) off (be prepared to replace some of the clips)

If it's the number plare lamp I've just replaced one last week on my D9. Open the tailgate, get a screwdriver and prise out the grey roundheaded plastic plugs. These are like rawlplugs with teeth on the outside, also take out the 2 screws holding the grab handle in place. Remove carpet like panel, although all I did was hold it open enough to get a hand in to the cut outs in the tailgate, watch your hands on the edges. On the side of the lamp body are 2 plastic ears, if you squeeze the bottom of these ears and push down at the same time you can wriggle the light out from the outside. On mine there wasn't a lot of wire and I found it easier to disconnect the unit and replace bulb off the car replacement is easy, just push into place.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are experts at this - not retrievers, then?
