heater fan

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Hello and welcome,

i reckon its broke,

but on a more serious note have you tried searching? the fan units on the 406 are renowned for playing up, it will either be the connections to the blower it self or the resistor pack hidden away behind the glove box, mine never gave me any trouble so i know very little else but try a search in the box up there :arrowu:  and im pretty sure somebody who has first hand experience will be along soon to help out. :cheesy:

I've had three problems with mine, the first was the red wire going to the fan motor, then the ignition switch (wiggling the key bringing it back to life), then another wire to the motor.
You will find the motor directly behind the glovebox, held in with 3 screws. I lie upside down on the passenger seat so I can look up at what I'm doing.

My first 406 had a similar issue, hitting the thing woudl get it going, thought it was the speed controller, when I actually took it out turned out to just be a poor connection!

Its the ignition switch contacts at the back of the barrel. They are infamous for packing up, I have read somewhere its about 30 quid for the new contact block at the back of the barrel but i could be wrong, have a search for "ignition switch" on here im sure you will find a good few posts about it.
