DRL's - (Doggy Running Lights), Anyone?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

DRL's - (Doggy Running Lights), Anyone?

Post by Doggy »

I've fancied adding these for some time, but really don't like the 'aftermarket' look, so decided to go for the 'dim main beam' version, similar to new VW's.

What do you think?

Difficult to get the right inpression at dusk, in a photo, but these are much dimmer than normal, though still easily visible in full daylight.

I know it's hard photographing lights but I wonder if they're a bit too big and glaring? kinda looks like there's something wrong with your main's?

Good effort though, some kinda switch/relay/resistor combo?

Inspectors findings and report:

# lower-lip spoiler is missing
# slight misting to front fog-lights
# wheels and paintwork covered in pollution
# foreign matter 'spotting' to leading edges, appears to be animal

I like it.
Gives it a bit of an mean look too the D9 front.
Even the VW Transporters have the aggressive DRL look!

Yep, i like it too brings it up to date with modern motors and of course its safer too . Its a much better look to the chavvy string of LED's.

Maybe they do look a little bright on some pics but i reckon it must be due the angle the pic was taken. Keep them.

I connected the two main beam lamps in series via a relay or two, so they only have half-voltage across them, (when used in this way).

Normal operation of all the lights is unaffected, so the headlamp flash works as before.

i think the pp2000 setting for Running lights turns them on aswell, though im not sure if its smart enough to allow just a flash with the high beam or if it locks the high beam on like the headlights are turned on.

Sometimes when one of those KDFwagen Golfs are following me I feel like putting the rear fogs on, they can be quite bright!

DRLs are obligatory here,

so was more than happy when i found the option in my computer thingamajigy controlled by one of the many thumb wheels on the steering wheel,

mine light up the inner HiDs at low power and stick some small sidelight things on, on the front, no idea if the back even lights up i must check, as its only the fronts that must be lit to comply with Polish traffic law (maybe european too, as i said i must check  )

having now spent a while driving here i can say for sure that they are a good thing i think everybody should do it.

Doesn't it turn the dipped beam on when you activate them in the BSI?
