406 front seat wiring (earth)

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 front seat wiring (earth)

Post by redfacer »

HI all, newbie redfacer here.
I'm slowly rebuilding a 2000 W Estate manual and I've come across my first problem.
I don't know how they did it, but when I collected the car, it smelled nice and Peugeoty,
next day it reeked of doggy wee.
Had it steam cleaned,no better, bought seats from local breaker, no smell now.
HOWEVER, can't seem to locate the earth wire for drivers seat, the green and yellow one
(the wire, not the seat!) I thought the wire was coming out of the underneath bottom squab
but when I tugged it, it come out complete with connector. Does anyone know where it actually
fits or can I just drill and screw a connection to the seat frame? Any assistance (or sarky comments)
gratefully received.

PS- today I found a panel on the car which isn't bent/scratched/wrong colour - the filler cap. Yippee!!

Hi Steve,thanks for your contact.
Re the car,it's a 2000 LX,don't yet know ifthat's early or not.Quick restate=== I have no ends on the cables as such, but looking at the old bits of loom I kept, all the green/yellow cables have a red connector-----my problem is that I can't find where it should connect

I know that the thinner Brown connector connects to the pretens Orange cable and the Blue thin cable connector goes into a Blue holder (as per your blank holder comment).

What I am then left with is, from the car's loom, a Yellow and Green cable for each seat which has a Red connector on it's end but has nowhere to go that I can see.

Hope this makes sense to you.

Thanks again for your time.

Kind Regards

It's an early D9, what I'm trying to get people to call a "semi-mux" D9

The red connector is an extra earth for the side airbag. The feed should come up with the rest of the wires and it's earthed on M55 (passenger footwell) It sounds like you pulled it out the seat because it wasn't connected at all - do the new seats have side airbags? (It should be stamped into the side of the seat)

Good Idea, Steve - maybe it could go in the sig. :arrowd:
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Hi Steve ( and Lozz!) seats are in but still have no place for the Green/yellow with red tab.
I've connected the battery, nothing untoward except that, naturally, the air bag light is on,
before I started fiddling, it worked correctly. No sign of seat/side airbags but just had a thought---
while I was playing about with the front seats, I switched off the front passenger air bag so it wouldn't go POP when I wasn't looking - I am going to retire with some Comfort of the Southern variety.

PS- can you suggest a good point of sale for a clear glass N/S headlamp????

Kind Regards
