Automatic headlights on 406 GLX

Hi, I've just joined the forum so hello to you all.

I have a 406 GLX with the automatic headlights and wondered if anyone could tell me how they are supposed to work?
I'm not sure how to activate/deactivate them as I don't have an owners manual.

On the end of the light stalk, there's a button. Hold it down until your hear a "beep" - on the car's multi-function display, there should be a message saying "Auto Lights On" or "Off". Switch them off. Leave them off, they're a pain in the arse (my opinion - I prefer to have control over which lights to use and when).

Actually, if you really do want to try them out, what you need to do is switch the auto-lights on at the time of day where you would want them to come on at - the car takes a measure of lightness at that time and stores it in the car's BSI - from then on in, the car will switch the lights on automatically when the light gets that low.

Sorry, this is going under the assumption that your 406 GLX is from 2001 onwards. If it's an earlier car, the auto-lights may not work in the way I've described. I didn't have them on my old 1999 V-reg LX, so I've never experienced them on a 406 older than early 2002.

Cracking, thanks for that it's a 2001 model and does work that way! - I was a bit concerned when I turned them off and they stayed on.
I did what you said and all is well, I like to be in control of what happens lol.

If it was an earlier car, it wouldn't have them. The auto-lights only came with the Comm2000 stalks.
