Changing Headlight units and rear fog light for Europe

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Changing Headlight units and rear fog light for Europe

Post by bielefeldpompey »

I'm just about to buy an early 1999 (D8 version) 406 V6 Saloon in the UK and export it to Germany. I will therefore need to change the headlight units and the rear foglight so I can register the car locally.

Is it possible to change the headlight units without the need to remove any of the bodywork, grill or bumper?

Also with the rear foglight, does the left side unit contain the wiring and fitting or will I need to purchase a new fitting in Europe?

Thanks in advance guys

Here is a guide to removing the headlight on the later version....I haven't removed a headlight unit from the earlier version (D8)

As far as I remember the wiring is there for the foglight, i think you have to cut a hole to fit the bulb for the light.

If I'm wrong, get yourself a bulb holder and fit it into the foglight fitting and extend the wiring from the other lamp.

Welcome to the forum :D

I know it was all there for the estate (just needed a bigger hole for the bulb) but I've no idea about a saLOON.

Thanks for the info guys and your kind welcome Jasper5. I will let you know how I get on. I will take some photos of the headlight process and post them on here. Hopefully changing the D8 headlights will be as straightforward as the D9 appears to be!!

Cheers,

Brian
