Changing the battery

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Changing the battery

Post by leestudd30 »

Aside from the 3 minute rule, is it quick and easy to change the battery? I haven't had to change one on my cars for years lol.

Remove terminals, remove battery, position new battery, connect terminals....done.

If you've got the standard radio in a D8 you may need the radio code but that's about it.

Thank you! Is it possible to get a decent battery for a maximum of £40 from somwehere like Halfords? Prices have gone up where I work and its £44 for a 510CCA rated one now, was £25 2 weeks ago.

What's the 3 minute rule?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Got one from my parts department yesterday, £40 for a 510 CCA rated one which isn't bad. Going to fit it at lunchtime, I noticed theres some red plastic over the terminal on the right side. Don't mean to sound thick but is that purely to show which colour cable from the car to fit it to?, ie positive & negative etc?

What's the story with leaving the drivers window open? Is there a reason for it?

I believe it's so you can reach in and turn the headlights on - opening the door would mess up the procedure at that point.

Changed it lunchtime, started much better than before! Though I noticed that when you press the drivers door window switch to go up it only moves about an inch then stops, whether I hold the switch down or not.
