clicking sound from rear quarter..406
Hi all
I have a DW10 peugeot 406 hdi W 2000 reg.
I'am not sure if this is a problem as such but, when the engine is off i can hear a clicking sound as if a relay is clicking on and off on the rear o/s of the car.
I've had a really good look but for the life of me can't seem to find where it is coming from.
Any ideas?

Umm...
Diesel sloshing around in the tank? (Does it go on infinitely or stop after a while?)
Rear door lock buggering about (Pull the fuse...)
Brake binding & that's the disk cooling.
CD changer?

Nope its when the car is off. if i went to it even now it would be there clicking away. It sounds like a relay click. It's very odd. If i open the boot (its an estate) and open the storage panel i can hear it very clearly but i just dont know what it could be.
not really sure if it's a problem but its just annoying not knowing what it is.

I can't think of anything, even the wiring goes down the lhs of the car
How about taking the panel with the storage box in it off and having a peer behind?

Do you have a towbar fitted?
icarnt think of anything else that wouid have A relay or use of one,
iirc theres one in the Tailgates for the Wiper,
other than that ,, what about the Fuelflap thingy iwonder if that is iffy and trying to lock/open
might be wrong tho,
Are you sure its the noise of a Relay'
Does the car Make the ticking noise constantly or does it only do it after its been Used,?

There's no lock on the fuel flap, just the licorice cable to the driver's footwell

Nah,not necessary when the cable release is locked inside the car. Good call on the towbar though, even if it's not still on there it doesn't mean it never had one. I'm hoping he'll spot something when he takes the cubby hole panel off. Maybe a split charge relay or something.
Either that or it's something mad like a mud flap blowing about in the wind

Re: clicking sound from rear quarter..406
Thanks for the replies chaps.
No mudflap flapping in the wind iam afraid as it doesn't have them fitted.
It might not be a relay but it just sounds like one, its "tick" then a second later another "click" but a different tone as if its a relay lol.
It does have a tow bar fitted but i cant see why that would have a relay.
and it's on constantly. car on off, although its hard to tell if its doing it when the car is on or moving due to road and engine noise.
It's sat on my drive now ticking and clicking away. so its nothing to do with the keys in the ignition, or if the engine is on, its just there clicking away.
Very strange. ill take that cubby panel out and see if i can see something.

I have found the culprit. I took that cubby panel out and found a relay box for the tow bar electrics. Can't see why it is clicking and don't want to disturb it if it messes up the wiring to the car.
Its a nimbus towing & leisure NP107 Voltage Triggered twin Relay.
