2000 HDI Executive - Mystery Switch

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

2000 HDI Executive - Mystery Switch

Post by trufflehunt »

Hi

On my car, on the centre console, there are the following switches..

From the front..

Heated Seat
Heated Seat
Switch with a dot on it, and what looks like several radio waves radiating from the dot.
Blank plate
Air bag on/off

Can anyone tell me what that third switch is, with the dot on it ?
I can find no mention of it in the owners handbook.

Could be alarm ultrasonics on/off switch i.e you leave a dog in the car, want the alrm on, but don't want it setting off every two mins

I would agree. My Xantia had the same sounding switch.By pressing it after turning the engine off,the alarm LED would light up permantly on.Then when you locked/set the alarm, the interior sensors would`nt work,so as said you could leave a dog in the car or leave the windows open.

You mean this:

it turns off the alarm, as mentioned its good for leaving pets in the car, and the windows, especially if you have wind deflectors you can keep them open.

That's the one. Thanks for all replies.

I've only just bought this car. My last one for the last 4 years
was a Mk 1 Peugeot 106, written off when someone smashed into me.

With all the electrics in the 406, and really different driving feel, its kind of
like going from a nippy roller skate to a battle cruiser.

The cheapskate models just have a coin holder there, which is silly really because what sort of cheapskate has any coins to put in a coin holder anyway?

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Thats a good idea!

My Mondeo you have to go onto the onboard computers main menu. Select Settings > Car > Security > Alarm > Select "Reduced"

Total pain in the ass!

Its also limited in the number of coins it can hold, and it doesnt deal too well with 50p coins
