Towing electrics

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Towing electrics

Post by scotty73 »

On the way back from Somerset last month i had this cheeky lil twunt pull along side me wind his window down and shout (sh*t caravan) i laughed and said i see you made sure the road was clear so you could shoot off a bit quick KNOBHEAD.
Well it turns out my indicator wern't working on the caravan so he was a bit miffed that i pulled out in front of him on the previous roundabout.
So yesterday i finally went and checked the bulb (it's not blown but still don't work) so while there i checked the rest of the bulbs, all working fine until i indicate right and brake at the same time then all the lights flash

So what he saw while i was slowing down to turn right was a mobile disco  every light bar the indicator flashing
I'm thinking it's something to do with the tow bar electric wiring but wouldn't know where to start, my mate who wired it is away at the moment and i need it done before a week Friday. :?
Any ideas guys?

If the other indicator is ok then I'd head for the wiring & connectors on the r/h light cluster. Sounds like a poor earth (Mk 4 corsets used to do it all the time)

I was thinking that yesterday but hoped it could be solved without ripping the rhs of the boot apart, i should ask my father in law to look at it with him being an electrician but....

If all else fails I'll pop to my lmf in the morning and bend his ear until he gives up and does it for me to get me out of the shop. ... well he does fit tow bars.

does the car go nuts when the caravan does?

have you got another car/van you can hook the caravan up to?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

You wouldn't know from sitting in the car that anything is wrong it's only that the guy insulted the van that i investigated as to why, okay she's 21 years old and a bit dirty on the roof from being sat under trees but she does the job.

I might have access to another van to try but not until next week i don't think.
