can you fit a trip computer in a 1998 1.9 td estate ?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

I don't know much about the XUD9 engine but from what Doggy says it does have a lot more electronics than I thought. The 2.1TD (XUD11) is slightly more advanced in that respect due to the fully electronic injection system.

It is definitely addictive doing things like this! Good luck, let us know how you get on.

I have. :cheesy:

...but I can't remember what it displays.

I was genuinely surprised how sophisticated it is, as it does show injection timing, (requested and actual), which I think it deduces from the crank and needle lift sensors, but I don't think it 'knows' exact injection volumes, (can't see how it could)?

Unfortunately my 'tame' 1.9TD is off wild boar hunting in the Midi Pyranees at the mo.....
Having looked at the ecu on my 1.9, it's quite big, so I guess there must be quite a lot going on!

Think you would be better off looking at the cabled to the ecu and seeing if the wire you need is there. I forget what number it is.

After all the 1.9TD ECU knows the Timing, throttle position and the engine speed so there is no reason why it cannot know the injection rate.

So it turns out my 2.1 does have the standard 16-pin OBD connector:

Not so surprising - my bro's 98 1.9TD has one too, (despite me paying extra for a PP clone with the 30-way adapter).

I'd like £35

I'll also include the secondary plug that you'll need and some extra wiring to assist in fitting i.e I fitted an earth lead into it and it has a ring connector on the end ready to ground underneath the centre console and a wire connected ready to go to wire 1368 8)
