Stereo wiring information

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Stereo wiring information

Post by ebmp19 »

I have just got a 2001 peugoet 406 D9 (the 3L 24V one) and I don't really use CDs so I want to add a raspberry pi ( a small computer ). I was wondering if anyone has any wiring diagrams for the stereo system or knows how it works. I am planning on connecting the audio from the computer to where the tape player audio goes out because I will never use that. I am also planning on being able to control the computer using the steering wheel stalk controls by connecting them to an arduino so if anyone knows how those work that would be helpful also. Thanks for your help guys.

Might help to look at these http://www.petrila.net/pug/Service/index.htm - the radio/CD is under driving comfort.

Yep, they make a pretty good little media player amongst other things.

Interesting - what do you need to get one of these pi's up & running to have a play around with?

It is possible to emulate the boot mounted CD changer, for example http://new.aiv.de/en/car/products/640250/aux_interface

If you have the software and hardware skills you could cook up your own slice of PI using this as a starting point. http://code.google.com/p/van-bus/

However for the real time interfacing to the Van bus you may want to conisider and Audrino, or a PIC rather than trying to do it all on the PI
Remember - it only takes a few inches of water to drown a 406 don't make the same mistake I made! The V6 Exec is no more.

A trip to Maplin who do a nice boxed set of PI, software, keyboard, mouse, PSU - still got to get round to playing with my PI

You really only need a 5V 1A+ power supply, an SD card, a raspberry pi (like $35) and the usual computer stuff (keyboard, mouse). You will probably want a USB hub (prefferably powered separately because it only has 2 USB ports but it isn't necessary). As mentioned above you can get packs and stuff which usually include a case for it. Installing the operating system to the SD card is really easy you pretty much just run a program.

Yeah I was planning on using an adruino and connecting it to the pi. So the control stalks use VAN? What kind of wires come from the control stalk?

As the whole thing is multiplexed you can get the VANBUS data off the back of the radio.

http://www.c5club.cz/files/pdf/rd3pinout.pdf

The facelifted model (clarion radio) stalks are VANBUS

That was the only bit I understood, although I've been pronouncing it P i, as in Magnum :cheesy:

Don't think 406's use the mini iso connectors, even with a CD changer + satnav

The original radio in my estate died, so I bought the CD player version off the bay - when I fitted that the 6 pack changer in the boot was the blue plug.

I have now moved the radio to the coupe and that has both the 6 pack changer and the sat nav - my D8.5 and D9 both used the mini ISOs
