central locking? problem

Hi all any help welcome,
I went to start car tonight first the plip didnt work and when I went to start the car with the ignition on or engine running all interior lights were flashing which eventually faded out.
The key locks the car if I hold the key in lock or unlock position.

Sorry the car is a 1.9tdi D8 exec estate 1999
The prolem has mysteriously cured its self perfectly normal again?
