307 Ignition barrel change

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

307 Ignition barrel change

Post by gumby6371 »

A guy at my work has a 2001 306 HDI, he changed the ignition barrel recently as the key wouldn't turn, now the engine turns over but won't start and the steering lock stays on.

Will a BSI reset cure it or is it a costly visit to the stealers to sync the new key to the car?

Is it a 306 (as in post) or 307 (as in title)? 306's don't have a BSI, pp2000 says they do but it's just the texton immobiliser box.

Did he swap the transponder chip from his old key to the new one?

I don't understand how the steering lock can stay on if the key is turning unless the barrel is damaged, it's a mechanical lock, not electronic.

its most probably : aproblem with the Ring round the barrel,
the Critter that picks the signal up from the chip in the key,

ithink the 307 is on the same set up as the 306 barrel wise,

Haven't actually seen the car but I'm sure he said y reg which makes it a 306 doesn't it?
i did tell him to swap the blades over in the keys and try that but the steering lock staying on had me confused.
