Firewall Hole?!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Firewall Hole?!

Post by Pritznotta »

Hi Guys,

This weekend i treated myself to a new car system (stereo, sub and amp).. I managed to do the easy part which was get the stereo in!

Now, for the last couple of days ive been trying to locate the 'hole' in the 'firewall' so i can connect the power wire to the battery.. etc etc

Has anyone got a clue where this hole/grommet could be?! Or any pictures? Or will i have to drill a hole?! I just cant seem to locate it!

When i was wiring up my towbar i wanted to run a live from the battery to the rear of the car via the firewall,i couldn't find a hole anywhere so gave up in the end.I'm not sure if your car is the same as mine but there is a large feed that goes to the N/S rear cluster (big red wire) this is used to power the charging for the towbar but just ends at the light cluster doing nothing,if you could hijack that lead in the loom before it goes to the back you could use that, you then have to locate the missing fuse in the fuse box for towbar and stick a fuse of the correct rating in it.

I've ran three wires through the firewall to the battery.

Take the triangular piece of trim off from under the glovebox
The white trim that holds the above piece of trim in place will spin off.
Pull the carpet back and you should then see the grommet
Pierce the grommet, and feed your required wire(s) through.
I put a little grease on the wires around the grommet to prevent water ingress :D

There's also a grommet just above where the steering column passes through the bulkhead - about 2" below the edge of the carpet. You can squeeze your hand between the carpet and bulkhead and should be able to touch it.
