Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 speedo stopped working

Post by yotams4 »

Hi, my speedo on my 2002 406 stopped working, not the entire dash, but just the speedo
Some say its the sensor sitting on the gear box - can someone explain where it is exacly and what do i have to do to replace it?

This issue has happened to a couple of members here, seems to be a common issue. I had it fixed about 6 months ago, myself.

Have a look at the previous discussion:

Short story is: If you experience a drop in power while the speedo stops working, it's either the speed sensor on the gearbox, or the BSI (I think, it's the speedo control unit, I think it's part of the BSI).

Luckily, it's a relatively cheap part.

It's exactly the same sensor on petrols and diesels, mine's a petrol 2.2.

If you don't have any loss of power at all, it's probably a faulty connection in the instrument cluster. You either need to disassemble it and fix the connection, or find another cluster to swap in.

Behind you speedo:) There's some soldering involved, not really hard to do.
