Autotek - Bournemouth
Morning all,
Having tried and failed to find a suitable replacement set of clocks for my 406, I have come across a firm called Autotek, based in Bournemouth. Their website has my clocks ( 9639940880) listed for £131, but currently out of stock, but say that they offer a fault finding/minor repair for £54. Has anyone used their services before , as I need to sort my eratic speedo and temp guage ( it's not the senders at fault), before they drive me completely nuts !!

I wouldn't have thought that a set of clocks would be so hard to find. What's been the problem?

RWB is right, clocks are in abundance on ebay, are your clocks unique in any way?
Some are hard to find but as long as the year, gearbox and fuel type are the same they should fit?

Here's the full list of them: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16033&hilit=+clock#p164870
Quite a lot of them are interchangeable.

Fairly sure you can't interchange semi mux (<9000) and full mux (9000 on) clocks - the connectors are different.

Re: Autotek - Bournemouth
Thanks for the replies. The difficulty I'm having is finding a 5 clock cluster, two plugs at the back and under 108,000 miles. There have been quite a few on Ebay, but non that tick all 3 boxes.
The reason I think the clocks are at fault is that the speedo is intermittant without a loss in power, and the temp guage is also temperamental. I've had the gearbox sender changed and the temp sensor checked.

If it's only the mileage holding you up on some cheap clocks,
then you can always get it reprogrammed by a mobile service.
Someone like dashdoctor will come out to you and reprogramme the mileage for about £20-£40.
Usually only takes about half an hour aswell.

It used to be called clocking !!
Thanks for the info though, as I'll certainly look into it, just don't want to fit clocks to my car that will add 1000's of miles to it if it can't be reversed .

Re: Autotek - Bournemouth
I looked into having the mileage calibrated/corrected, and you're spot on with the advice, as it appears that there are plenty of places that will do it. The only downside for me is that they all want anywhere between £90 and £110 , which is about an eighth of my cars value
I wonder how many cars are running around with "calibrated" mileage which is way below the actual mileage ?

The mileage on mine is 187,000 miles and I'd say looking at the state of it, there's definitely no ' clocking ' involved....

I remember a story from long ago about a dealer who bought a rather nice looking, butGingerMagic wrote:![]()

Maybe a good solution and worth remembering..
high mileage car from the car auctions.
He put the trade plates on, drove it back to his garage, and set about rejuvenating the mileage.
It was not one of the easier ones, and he had a bit of a struggle, what with getting his head
under the dash, and fiddling around behind the instruments.
Eventually, he managed to get his hand in the right place, but couldn't see a thing. So,
he had to start again with a tiny pencil light, on account of there being so little room.
He reached in from underneath, neck twisted round almost to dislocation point, pencil light shone
ahead of him. Through the gloom, he could just make out a small piece of paper.
There was something printed on it. "Oh, no, not again..".

£90-£110!! jeez that's expensive.
The tacho on my accord clocks went haywire last year, and ended up with a scrap set to replace them,
it only cost £20 for the guy to come out to my work, and reprogram the new clocks to my original mileage.
Had a laptop with him with all the different cars info and pictures of clocks on it.
Then soldered 3 or 4 wires from a little handheld device onto the back of the clocks pcb, punched in the numbers for the mileage on the device, and hey presto.
All done at lunchtime.
