PP2000 cruise control and brake light switches

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

PP2000 cruise control and brake light switches

Post by Malc »

PP2000 registered my cruise control/brake switching was "incoherent" ie the brake light/cruise control sequence was wrong or one of the switches was not functioning in my case the brake light switch.
The switches are located on a bracket above the brake pedal behind the steering column and irrespective of what Haynes says they can be got at and removed without the nightmare of removing the steering column!
Pull the switch out from its holder and disconnect from the socket by prising the slot in the socket with a screw driver.
If unsure there is a similar socket on the glove compartment light as an example.
You can replace switches if necessary but I removed both (white brake light red cruise control) took them apart cleaned and added a small nipple of glue to the plunger of the brake light to slightly increase the length of travel and checked both worked using a multi-meter.
I replaced both switches and with PP2000 adjusted the right sequence ie cruise control switch activating before brake-light.
Another success for PP2000..

Splendid :cheesy: Oddly, mine never threw up a fault even with the cruise switch (ahem  ) open circuit, i.e. permanently active. I've also set mine up so the brake light goes active before the cruise and it works too, so I suspect it doesn't actually matter, just so long as both switches work :?

If your cruise control switch is permanently active as you say Steve then I don't suppose it will as the brake light switch will always be behind the cruise control but I can assure you until I got it right ie cruise control before brake light I got a failure.
