Which Alternator....

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Which Alternator....

Post by trufflehunt »

2000(W) HDI 110

When I go into Peugeot Service Box there are various part numbers shown for the alternators for my car,
Mostly Valeo, though Bosch and Mitsubishi are in there.

When I look on eBay, most of the secondhand parts sellers advertise their stuff as '406 alternator' or 'HDI
alternator' with the impression that any HDI alternator will fit my car.

However I noticed that one seller had 2 alternators for sale. One is listed as 406 HDI 2001 - 2004, and the other
is listed as 1999-2001.

Can anyone shed any light on this.

Not really... Alternators are a minefield. There are so many alternator manufacturers for the same engine, it beggars belief. Just make sure all the wire connections match up and you should be OK. Specs wise, they are the same, as far as I know.

Stick your reg no into Eurocarparts, that should bring up the correct one for your model.

Thanks for that.

What I did last week..., I went into Service Box, with my VIN, and noted down
all the part numbers of the different alternators that were listed.

Then spent days hunting through eBay, and asking the sellers what their part numbers were.

Eventually got this one..., just waiting for it to arrive.
