Instrument Cluster Change

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Instrument Cluster Change

Post by dmrstott »

Hi guys,

I have a 2004 406 hdi and the rev counter and fuel gauge have stopped working. I have purchase a complete second hand instrument cluster but before fitting I wondered if anyone knows what will happen to the speedometer mileage when I plug it in. Will it refer to the mileage on the speedo now or change to the mileage on the speedo I'm about to fit.

Appreciate anyone's feedback

Best wishes
Dave

It will most likely add them together.
The total is stored in both the clocks and the BSI, this is meant to ensure that a new set of clocks will show the correct mileage - and it does, (so long as it is a new set).
Instead of copying the mileage across, for some reason it adds them together.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

From experience: on a D9 It will synchronise both to the larger of the two.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

if you swap the BSI you certainly get the larger of the two.. Assume it will do the same for a clocks swap

It will definately take the larger value from either the speedo or the BSI and replicate it

When I changed mine on my old 52 plate Rapier(by mistake) it took the higher mileage clock's reading, luckily it was only + 11k more miles than my original but I dread to think if you use a clockset from a taxi!

I have 211,000 on the clock now so chances are the replacement might be lower and from what you guys are saying it will override a lower mileage value with the higher....
