Excessevive Fuel consumption and many other problems

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Excessevive Fuel consumption and many other problems

Post by yazidhs »

Hello everyone! hope you are having a good time. Just registered cos of multiple problems i'm facing and i'm hoping you guys can help. Before I go on please do understand that i'm from Nigeria and we lack technicians as well as service parts and tools.
I have an EW7 2000 model 406 that started developing problems with solutions administered by our so called tecnicians in this order:

Problem 1: Doesn't throttle over 40mph, engine wobbles & antipollution fault at the same time.
Solution: After checking, the technician found out that the two middle plugs were not "firing" though they are in good condition Image
as such the two middle injectors were not distributing fuel. After diagnosing with pp2000, they couldn't find a solution so, electricity was tapped Image
from each of the other two working end injector wirings to provide support for the two in the middle Image
and it started working but antipollution fault comes up intermittently without affecting performance though.

Problem 2: Engine oil vapour pours into throttle body via the inlet air temperature sensor pipe from the right hand side of the engine and makes it oily and thus jerks Image
Solution: The technician blocked the inlet at the inlet elbow(which I believe is a very bad idea) but did not block the left & right hand breather hoses which stopped the oil vapours depositing at the throttle.

Also, as I tried cleaning the hole that the pipe carrying the oil vapours at the top cylinder (by scraping with a screw driver), there was this semi solid carbon & sand like residue,Image
is there a way of cleaning it??

The problem is that prior to all this, my car used to average about 10km per liter of fuel but I just used almost 30 liters for an 86km trip. Our technicians are hopeless please I need help cos I'd rather DIY'd it myself than let someone run my beautiful pug to the ground.
I'm very sorry for the long story and distorted images, it's my first time and I had to search for corresponding images and names of parts etc. *just why didn't I take pictures???SMH .

If your middle two cylinders were not firing, that would account for the engine vibration. If that was caused by the injector wiring problem, that should have sorted itself. As to oil being dragged into the engine, that sometimes happens with misfiring cylinders. So that should now be sorted. If not, it is because of worn rings or overfilling with oil. (They are the two most common reasons.) As to the carbon deposits in the pipework, you could clean them by using carburettor cleaner and a knitting needle. Although you need to be careful not to damage the pipes by being too violent. Oil being run through the exhaust system from the two misfiring cylinders could also account for your emissions light coming on, so once the engine is running on four cylinders properly, that should sort itself out.
I would suggest a cylinder leakage test to check out the condition of the engine.
