remote receiver not working

Hello... the remote receiver on the 97 406 est has just stopped working. At first when the central locking became a little random, I thought it was the fob battery, changed that and since then zero signs of recognition from the car! I have to put in the code every time I start the car and the central locking works on the driver's door key.
I was messing with the front int light a few weeks ago when I couldn't work out how to change the bulb , managed that in the end but could I have dislodged a wire from the receiver? I don't even know where it is....

someone suggest that all I need to do is to re-programme the key fob - is that a do-it-yourself task or do I need to fork out £100s to have Peugeot do it, does anyone know?
