Heater blowers

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Heater blowers

Post by Ady1985 »

Went and took our lass to work this morning, always have my heaters set to 25 and auto with no a/c, went to demist the window and the blowers give up, changed fused, wriggled key in ignition while running, still no go, read on here about resisters and the blower unit its self, going to have a look soon, but before I get started pulling everything out, any simple checks I can do in passenger footwell where blower is to save pulling the heater control unit and blower out, and the cheapest and easiest fix (as I'm skint till next Friday haha)
I'm very mechanical minded so big jobs and wiring aint no issue

Thanks in advance
Adrian

Right, put straight power to heater blower, thats working fine, done live test from plug, no power, is this the resister then?

Reach behind the centre console from the passenger side and you may find a green connector with 2 plugs in it. Give this a wiggle when blowers on full and engine running.
If things come to life then the resistor is a £20 eBay part and 5 minute job to swap.

Right, I've sussed it, and it ain't pretty but its working, I took everything out from dash, the headsup display, the heater control unit, the stereo, took fan blower and resister out, then stripped the steering surrounding to find that the red wire from the ignition barrel to the fuse has been cut, then the red wire to the fuse is connected to another red wire which is tidely taken all the way to the engine fuse box with an in line fuse in it and connected to the main power feed to the engine fuse box, the inline fuse has completely fried so I've cut that out and fitted another inline fuse to it to see if it does the same. Only time will tell I suppose but least its all working again :D
