Hi guys, I've just joined the Peugeot fold after many years of Volvo ownership. I've bought a 51 plate 406 HDI(90) estate. I've go multiple dashboard problems with it. The speedo and rev counter don't work and the temp gauge is intermittent. The fuel gauge permanently reads empty with the light flashing, although if you turn the ignition off and on again it swings up for a second and then drops again. The ABS check light doesn't illuminate either when you turn the ignition on. The display in the centre console was working on all functions except showing the remaining mileage. This morning things took a turn for the worse. The display in the centre console froze, the passenger airbag warning light came on and the odometer in the centre of the instrument cluster flicked to just displaying dashed lines intermittently. I pulled over, turned the ignition off for a couple of minutes and then re-started the car. The odometer, centre console display and airbag warning light all seemed ok then after another 4 or 5 minutes of driving the additional faults reoccurred. When I got home, turned the ignition off and locked the car the fuel gauge light stayed flashing for a couple of minutes along with the odometer display and the display in the centre console. I've had a look through the forums and found mentions of dry solder joints, under carpet connectors and BSI units. I'm hoping that someone may be able to point me towards which of these could be causing my problems,
Regards, Richard

Hi Richard and welcome to the forum.
Try the simple things first - see if there's any sign of damp under your driver's footwell carpet, if not check the connector(s) are firmly seated on your clocks assembly. Your car is of an age where it could have one or two connectors - be interesting to know which.

Re: Multiple and increasing dashboard faults.
Thanks for the reply Doggy. I'll check the carpets in the morning. I fetched the clocks out this morning to check for a loose connection (I was surprised how easy it was) and there's just one connector block on the right hand side of the clock unit.
Re: Multiple and increasing dashboard faults.
I was about to say the same, I had similar symptoms a few weeks ago and found about half an inch of water under the carpet. There are several multi way connectors under there that connect the rear loom to the dashboard, mine improved considerably just by mopping the water up.

Re: Multiple and increasing dashboard faults.
I took the plastic sill trim off this morning and had a good feel around under the carpet (I hadn't got my tools here to strip the seats out and lift it all the way up) and all felt dry. I took the clocks out again and when I pressed the hazard warning light button the odometer section and the centre console display illuminated but the indicator symbols in the binnacle didn't illuminate despite the indicators flashing and the ignition not being turned on.

Re: Multiple and increasing dashboard faults.
If that fails look for dry joints on the instrument panel, often on the sockets of the connectors.
