The indicators flashed as if I'd used the fob, I walked round to the drivers door with a somewhat unhopeful demeanour, looked at the omni-present immobiliser light and it was off! As was the engine management light. She turned over perfectly and the fob is working again!"
Was that posted April 1st perchance?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Well I am going to give in.....after further examination, I have found all the wires and connectors in the footwell are beyond repair. So i am having the car collected tomorrow and the electrical magician can sort it all out.
I also hope it will cure some of the other niggles I have had with the car......
If not, it will be up for sale and the end of my peugeot journey....
206 auto Rolland Garros, failed auto box, twice (Scrapped second time)
406 2.0 Exec, survived
406 v6 auto, failed gearbox
Current 406 2.2HDi, currently waiting surgery and delivering a hefty bill.......
C'est la vie as they say....or translated......
piss poor design, workmanship and a gallic shrug.....

Well I finally got my car back from the electrical man......
It starts runs and seems to go ok, but if you rag it, the EML comes on, goes off after a few miles while you drive nice and gentle.
And now the 'Anti polution system defective' message is nagging me
Oh and as a special, a new fault.....the sat nav is not selectable from the menu
I just dont know what to do with this car....sell it or throw it in a ditch :(
And I still dont know what caused the original fault that imobilised it, the repair man suspected it was the soggy coroded wires under the drivers carpet.
But what confuses me with all that electric shorting out and creating faults, why did not one single fuse blow?

Because it's mux, and all the signals got screwed up, rather than shorts between various circuits. Sorry to hear it's still giving you gyp :(
