Peugeot 406 BSI problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Peugeot 406 BSI problem

Post by Keizer »

Hi all i am new to this forum and i have few electrical issues with my 406

2 months ago my did not get started sometimes (motor works)
if try few times and disconnect battery and reconnect it works after few minutes
sometimes dashboard acting weird with beeps sounds and dials shake with lights.

So my mechanic told that it did not start because electricity was not supplied to fuel pump because of BSI fault.
Then he tried to reset it but it did not work.

so now i am goind to BSI. When i am replacing do i need to reprogram it ? or else my mechanic said that no need reprogram if we used some part of old BSI and replace it on new BSI (i am not sure exact part)
Is it possible? Is there any way to repair old BSI

Thank you

Hi there, welcome :cheesy:

First off I'm going to point you towards this because everyone else will - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12118&p=107150&hilit=crazy#p107150 although I don't suppose this is very likely in Sri Lanka (?)

I guess it might be worth checking that none of these cables are damaged.

Companies exist that repair BSI's - http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/Prod ... tegory=587

Changing the BSI, well, all things are possible but a new BSI will be rather a lot of money. What people usually do is replace the BSI, engine ecu & immobiliser transponders from a broken 406 with the same engine, body style and of similar vintage.

Hello and welcome to the forum, 8)

Some details of your car might help, (petrol / diesel which engine, year).

My first thought is to prove the car will start if you power the pump from a temporary supply, (carefully)!
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Yes i am from Sri lanka and here it may happens in rainy seasons, should check those connectors because I also got the same problem low brake fluid and air bag bulb sometimes, then again i heard that low break fluid warning comes dues to hand brake issue and air bag fault happens due to loose connections under seat.

Here even used BSI is very expensive (gbp 240) if i replace all 3 it would be nearly gbp 400.
Can't we replace used BSI without replacing ECU and other?

Anyway thank you very much of rinformation
