Hi all, I am upgrading the interior of my D8 1.9td LX, I've bought a donor D8 executive and have removed its leather interior, while I'm at it I'm going to replace the grey parts of the dashboard and glovebox with black, put in an aftermarket stereo and component speakers.
I've seen a few V6 instrument clusters for sale on flea bay and am assuming that it is not an easy swap, being as they have an extra temp gauge and slightly different layout. This is a shame as I really like the chrome gauge surrounds.
Has anyone tried to swap them before? Also, does the mileage come from the ecu or is it stored in the clocks somehow? So if I do swap will the new clocks pick up the correct mileage from my ecu or display whatever the mileage was in the car they were removed from?
Any advice appreciated as always.

Re: Swapping instrument cluster from a V6?
Physically swapping the clocks is easy, however...
On a D9 you will get the higher of the two mileages. On a D8 the mileages will be added together.
I'm not sure whether you can put clocks from a petrol into a diesel since the rev counter is not graduated properly.
Similarly, there are different graduations on the speedos (this seems not to matter on the D9)
The clocks on autos have an extra bit on them
...
On the D9 you enable the oil temperature gauge in PP2k. I don't know about the oil level gauge on the D8 clusters.

I think you can strip the dials to remove the Chrome rings and insert them into your cluster - saves messing about with mileage problems......
Maybe practice on your old clocks.....

Thanks guys, as usual, lots of things I hadn't considered, thanks for the heads up, will try and pick up a cheap v6 set and take the chrome rings out instead!

Some Hdi's have the 5 gauge set too - maybe find a cheap high mileage one ( with the shiny rings.. ) on flea bay that's nice and local to collect it...?

D8 mileage is stored in the instrument cluster only!
Find a new cluster with roughly the same mileage as your car and it's a straight swap!
You may need to add an oil temperature sensor and the associated wiring!
