Tachometer on an xud
On older cars like the 305 what's the best place to rig up the tachometer to a Diesel engine my petrol gauge cluster has a tachometer but no diesel 305 seemed to come with one fitted can a petrol tach that works with the coil be set to work with the alternator

I don't believe so, Frank. I think they use the pin lift sensor on one of the injectors.
Your best bet may be grabbing the necessary from an XUD+tacho equipped 405/205/309
