Found this wire in my rear entrance...

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Found this wire in my rear entrance...

Post by GingerMagic »

Whilst I was rummaging around in my boot yesterday, trying to see if I had the connections for the built in Sat-Nav ( which I haven't ) I spotted this wire;

It was tucked in between the o/s rear speaker cover and the top trim. There is a resistor inside the end part and the wires lead down to this weird box.

I do have a towbar fitted which could explain the mass of wires and boxes stuffed behind the o/s/r light cluster, but I can't think what this little light would be for? There are two holes ( one each side ) where a screw was removed, in the middle of the rear speaker covers so maybe this will give some ideas?

Looks very home made, remove the glue. I would guess at a remote receiver for stereo or similar?

STOP!

Speak very quietly now, that is a listening device.... to remove you must switch on the ignition and place the left turn indicator on and open the glovebox.....then AND ONLY THEN carefully snip the GREY negative wire....failure to do this correctly will spell disaster.

And no I haven't got a cooking flue what it is either.

It's a spy camera put there by MFI...

With that resistor in there next to the diode I reckon it's some sort of indicator light, maybe for an alarm or perhaps, because there were two of them on the speakers, some previous pirrock of an owner thought they looked cool or something. Where does the wire go? Into that box maybe? If it were me I'd tidy all that botched wiring up for peace of mind (fire!) and hopefully find out what the light was for in the process.

Looking at your wiring mate I reckon it's a home made indicator light so the owner knew the indicators were working on the trailer/caravan instead of/as well as the buzzer.
I reckon if you hook up a trailer/caravan & try the indicators you will find it will flash but only when the towing electrics are being used :wink:

I was thinking the same thing - maybe the audio indicator alarm doesn't work? I'll get my trailer back from my nephew and test it - although I've stuffed the diode back behind the rear light...... :roll:

Hmmm - the plot thickens.

I fitted a Connects2 unit to the back of the standard radio/cassette player yesterday and found these spliced wires :arrowd:
IMAG0751.jpg
Also, the rear speakers don't work at all. I've checked them on Planet and they should be activated so I guess the dirty great holes in the parcel shelf were for some 6x9s and they were joined in ( quite neatly I may add ) but I haven't seen any obvious wires trailing anywhere near the parcel shelf......?? I will investigate further as I would quite like my rear speakers to work....
